Small habits make a big difference

"Build small habits. Make big plans.

1) Keep your daily actions small. Strive to get 1% better every day.

2) Keep your daily mindset big. Think about how you can play a bigger game.

Start small, but never dream small." - James Clear

Winter…it’s the time of year for either going off the rails (think comfort food, less water, less going outside, less desire to move our bodies) or it can be our time to get our goals sorted and get our bums into gear for the warmer months that are coming.

Mackenzie's birthday is in September and that is always my marker of spring being here. The cherry blossoms are blooming, the weather is nicer, the days are longer. I love it! The cool thing is that September is only 11 weeks away, what is 11 weeks of more focus? 11 weeks of striving to be 1% better everyday? 11 weeks of small habits that add up to big things.

What small habits could you add into your day to make that 1% improvement?

  • Drink a glass of water when you wake up in the morning

  • Increase your N.E.A.T (Non exercise activity thermogenesis) think walking the dog further, throwing a playlist on a smashing out the housework, taking the stairs, walking and talking (take your phone calls on the go if you can), any opportunity you can take to move a bit more take it. It adds up and remember to think 1% not 100%.

  • Get to the gym 10 mins earlier and do a more intense warm up than walking on the treadmill (at least put a decent incline of that sucker)

  • Make a new playlist for training.

  • Stretch while watching netflix in the evening.

  • Add more veggies to your plate.

  • Plan the meal you struggle with the most (mine is lunch, my lunches are terrible!)

Taking action increases our self-confidence so pick one thing on the list (or one of your own) and just do it! You’ll be so proud of yourself for doing it!

Now after that little pep talk I’m off to take a big drink of water and plan what my lunches are going to be for the week.
